My name is Gretchen Morse-Dobosz, and I am the district Superintendent/ Principal for Worthington. As your educational leader, I am deeply dedicated to our students, families, and the teachers. I am committed to ensuring that all students in Worthington have caring, knowledgeable adults who will support them and who will create the systems and structures to prepare them for this new global society.
Over the last ten years, I have had the unique opportunity to be a part of this incredible community where all stakeholders believe-in and support local education. In 2010, parents, educators and volunteers joined to keep R.H. Conwell open after budget cuts forced the closing of three Gateway Regional School District schools. During a five-year period, the community committed to providing a local elementary option for as many families as wanted it, always with an eye to reopening a publicly funded school. After a rare sequence of events, the Worthington School District was established as a new school district in Massachusetts. Once hired as the educational leader of the newly formed district, I quickly learned the tasks of opening the district were immense and exhilarating. Serving as the Superintendent/Principal of Worthington has been tremendously rewarding and the teamwork and collaboration of the entire community has allowed the district to flourish.
I believe every student should possess solid content mastery, as well as the Four Cs: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Integrating the Four Cs alive in schools ensures that all students will have the opportunity to reach their full potential through engagement. Just as important, and what I consider to be the driver of success is the Fifth C ~ Courage. Courage is persevering when there are academic challenges. I believe we have created a school culture where kids feel safe enough to grow, courageous enough to take risks, and fearless enough to learn.
When I’m not in Worthington, I live in Shelburne Falls with my husband, Jerry, and our four dogs (Cairo, Bear, Rosey, and Ollie). We have two college age children, Owen and Tatum. Most weekends we find ourselves driving the thruway to visit them in New Hampshire and New York or taking a hike somewhere in New England.
